Tips On How to Care and Maintain Natural Hair

Being a newbie in anything can be hard especially when it comes to caring for your natural hair. Not surprisingly, you may have heard of all types of lingo in the natural hair community that you may or may not be familiar with. But don’t worry! By the time you are done reading this, you will know some of the terms used and what they mean. And more importantly, you will also know how to take care of your hair like a pro, right in the comfort of your home.

Please read on and find out the best tips to caring for your hair.

Establish a wash day routine that works for you:

By now, the term wash day has been waved everywhere right? Well it simply means that this is the day set aside to wash hair (bet you guessed that already). Anyway, a successful wash-day will require a good shampoo. It is important to opt for an all-natural shampoo free of silicones, sulphates, GMOs and paraben. It would also be wise if you include a clarifying shampoo or to clay monthly to get rid of any build-up that may hinder your hair follicles from getting the necessary nutrients they need.

Deep condition weekly:

This step is necessary to treat and restore natural oils that were stripped from hair during shampooing. Ensure that your deep conditioner stays on for at least 15 minutes using a deep conditioning cap before rinsing it off. NEVER let your deep conditioner stay overnight as you may have moisture overload and do more harm than good to your hair. So far so good right? Good news is, up until this point, any kind of washing and rinsing is done.

The next step is to moisturize your hair and scalp with a good leave-in conditioner, then seal with either a good oil or oils and a butter. You can complete this step with an easy style. Depending on your hair's porosity, it could be LOC or LCO (we will spell out LOC and LCO in our next post).

We would love to hear your thoughts on how you have been managing your natural hair during the pandemic in the comments section below.

Thanks for reading. Stay tuned for the next tips!
